HAVING TROUBLE OPENING PDF FILES?
If you are interested in knowing why you are having problems viewing the pdf files on surgicalcriticalcare.net, keep reading. If you don't care, don't have time, or are just plain fed up and want to know the solution, click here
pdf files are used extensively on this website to ensure a consistent appearance of the documents across a variety of web browsers. The pdf format also allows users to share these documents easily and print them for use in their intensive care units.
pdf files can appear either:
1) within a window of the Internet browser OR
2) as a stand-alone Adobe Acrobat Reader window.
Netscape Navigator 6.0 does not support showing pdf files within a browser window and those of you with this browser are out of luck (do yourself a favor and switch to Explorer...).
For those of you using Microsoft Internet Explorer, there appear to be occasional instability problems on some computers between Adobe Acrobat Reader and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Some users will find that they can open the pdf files without difficulty, while others will find that they cannot. Who will it happen to, why does it occur, and what can be done? Nobody at Adobe seems to have figured it out...yet.
THE SOLUTION - (for Internet Explorer users)
Until Adobe comes up with a solution to this problem (hopefully soon :) ), the following "fix" will allow you to open and use pdf documents. When you select one of the pdf files on the website, you will now be asked whether you want to "Save the file to disk" (the default option and easiest if you want to have your own copy) OR "Open this file from its current location". When you choose the later, the pdf file will open in its own window and you will be able to view and print the document without difficulty.
When Adobe has come up with a "fix" for this problem, I'll place a message on the website.
Thanks for your patience!!
